特色一:课堂模式

Feature 1: Class Mode

The language skills which BC curriculum needs will be taught and trained through Maple Leaf School. The most significant feature of English classes in Maple Leaf is to learn in a happy environment . The types of English class in elementary school are phonics, conversation, reading and writing. Students start the journey of English learning with English speech or an English song. Plenty of class activities, creative group cooperation and a mass of original English reading materials make student enjoy a very big spiritual feast. Even if you are a newcomer and want to know more English, no worries, our tutorial club will satisfy you. In Maple Leaf, there’s one platform waiting for you to show yourself. 特色二:英语教学资源

枫叶小学开设大课时量(每周10节英语课时,5节中教、5节外教)的中外教英语课程,中英课以自编《枫叶少儿英语》为主教材,外教课程以Oxford Discover Everybody Up为主教材,教研团队还会添加大量英文绘本来培养学生的英文阅读习惯,提高学生的阅读能力。除上述课时外,另设提高班和辅导班满足不同层次学生的需要。实施情景听说课、文体阅读课、过程写作课、立体语法课等多种课堂教学模式,倡导快乐课堂、快乐教育,小学毕业词汇量达到2500个。外教侧重对学生拼读,听说,阅读能力的训练和培养,中教除此之外侧重学生语法,阅读和写作能力的训练和培养。


Feature 2: Teaching Material

There are 10 English lessons a week in total(5 lessons from bilingual teachers, 5 from ESL English teachers). The teaching materials include Maple Leaf English for Primary as the main textbook taught by bilingual English teachers, and Oxford Discover and Everybody Up taught by ESL English teachers. The teaching research group will provide lots of English reading materials to develop students’ good reading habits and improve their reading skills. Besides the periods, the tutorial clubs meet different students’ need. The teachers implement situational listening and speaking class, different literary styles reading class, process writing class, grammar class etc. and advocate happy learning. Students are able to catch 2500 words in elementary school. The international teachers focus on phonics, listening, speaking and reading skills. The bilingual teachers focus on grammar, reading and writing.

如果说每周10节的课堂教学是学生的第一英语课堂,那么五彩缤纷的英语社团和英语活动就是孩子们的第二英语课堂。把课堂上所学的英语在生活中实践和应用是开展第二课堂的目所在。英语戏剧,英语配音,英语故事和动漫社,英语歌曲俱乐部,枫之声广播站等给孩子们诸多选择。同时常规的英语活动如:英语艺术节,英语演讲比赛,英语书写大赛,英语配音大赛,英语达人秀等活动都给孩子们提供了展示平台。中西文化节日,万圣节,感恩节和圣诞节等的庆祝让所有人充分地感受着西方文化气息。当然我们襄阳校区还有极具襄阳特色的校本课程,我们会把军事家、政治家诸葛亮,大书法家、画家米芾“带到”我们的英语特色课,打开英文思维模式,畅游在三国文化的历史长河中。


Feature 3: English activities

If the 10 English classes are the first access of English learning, plentiful and colorful English clubs and activities are the supplementary learning for students. The carrying out of the supplementary learning aims at using and applying what they learned. A variety of clubs provide students more choices of English learning, such as, English dubbing club, English drama club, English choir club, Voice of Maple Leaf. Besides, the regular activities are English Arts Festival, English Speech Competition, English Dubbing Competition, English Calligraphy Contest providing students more chances to show themselves. Different festivals make students feel and understand the atmosphere of western culture. Based on local characteristics, we open some other curriculums to train their English way of thinking.

特色四:评价体系

英语学科教学另一特色就是学习评价方式的变革:即变传统的终极性评价为科学的形成性评价。具体体现在:

A. 从单一的期中、期末试卷成绩改为平时学习过程的评价和考试相结合的方式。

B.从单纯的成绩评价改为对学生学习态度、学习习惯和学习成绩的综合评价;

C.从单一的笔试改为听说读写的综合测试。

D.中方教师课程评价和加方教师课程评价相结合。

变分值呈现为评价评语呈现。这样可以使学生、家长更加明确自己在哪些知识、技能和思维上存在不足,从而更加明确努力的方向。形成性评价更能激励学生关注平时的点滴努力,更加公平与科学,同时与高中加方的评价方式接轨。

 

Feature four: Evaluation System

Another feature of English teaching is the revolutionary change of evaluation system, which is changed from traditional summative evaluation to scientific formative evaluation. Here are the following details:

A. Change from a single test result being evaluated to evaluation from both learning process and test results

B. Comprehensive evaluate on students’ attitude, habits and grades rather than grades only

C. Test on listening, speaking, reading and writing, rather than written test only

D. Evaluated by international teachers and bilingual teachers

Not only the score of the test, but also the comments. Thus, students and parents will know what the problem is and strive for it. Formative evaluation stimulates students to focus on their learning process and language accumulation, which is more reasonable and scientific. Meanwhile, in accordance with the evaluation system in Senior High school of Maple Leaf.


特色五:枫叶ESL分级教学体系

枫叶ESL分级教学体系按枫叶教育实际定位设立,与加拿大BC高中十年级课程英语要求无缝对接。枫叶ESL分级课程标准,测试标准的确立,保证枫叶小学、初中和高中的英语分级教学、考试、评价、按级选课全面实施,做到因材施教,因生施教,确保英语基础不同的枫叶学子都能获得最大进步。

《枫叶ESL分级课程标准》共分9个级别,经过小学六年学习,毕业达到6级要求,初中毕业达到9级要求,顺利进入枫叶高中十年级全加方课程学习。


Feature five:  Maple Leaf Level-based ESL Teaching System

The Maple Leaf Level-based ESL Teaching System is designed in accordance with Maple Leaf Educational Systems and is seamlessly connected to the English requirement of  Canadian BC High School Grade 10 program. These standards guarantee the full operation of English level-based teaching, team, assessment and course selection according to students’ English levels in Maple Leaf Primary Schools, Middle Schools and High Schools. This makes sure that each Maple Leaf student is provided at-level courses and can achieve the greatest improvement in their English ability.


There are in total 9 levels in Maple Leaf ESL Curriculum Standard. It is planned that after 6 years of study in Maple Leaf Primary Schools, the English competency of students could reach Level 6 requirements, and after graduation from Maple Leaf Middle Schools their English Competency should be at Level 9 which enables them to enter Maple Leaf High Schools Full BC Grade 10 program successfully.
